Chucky's back to save horror!

Curse of Chucky

On DVD & Blu-Ray Monday 21st Oct. 2013

Terror returns in a deceptively tiny package when Curse of Chucky, the newest installment of the chilling
Child’s Play franchise, comes exclusively to Blu-Ray™ and DVD on 21 October, 2013, from Universal Pictures (UK) and Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production entity of Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Receiving its European Premiere at Film4 FrightFest at 21.00 on 22 August 2013, Curse of Chucky reunites franchise creators Don Mancini and David Kirschner as Chucky returns to horrify viewers in an all-new, unrated chapter of the blood-soaked suspense saga that James Oster of ArrowInTheHead.com gleefully calls “Delightfully deadly.”

“It has been a quarter of a century since fans were first petrified by Toyland’s most lethal serial killer in Child’s Play” said Glenn Ross, General Manager and Executive Vice President, Universal 1440 Entertainment. “Now, twenty-five years later, the deadly legacy continues as Chucky resumes his disturbing reign of terror, delivering more of the blood-curdling scares and bone-chilling twists that have cemented his place as one of the world’s most legendary horror film icons.”

Written and directed by Mancini, Curse of Chucky finds a family imperiled by the murderous doll that launched a generation’s nightmares – determined to finish a job that was started long ago. The film stars Fiona Dourif (The Master, “True Blood”), A Martinez (“Longmire,” “General Hospital”), Danielle Bisutti (Get Smart, “CSI: Miami”) and Brennan Elliott (“Flight 93,” Double Jeopardy), with Brad Dourif (The Lord of the Rings) once again providing the voice of Chucky, the homicidal plaything inhabited by the spirit of notorious serial killer Charles Lee Ray.

The Blu-ray™ and DVD each include UltraViolet™ for the ultimate, complete viewing experience

Blu-Ray™ disc unleashes the power of your HDTV and is the best way to watch movies at home, featuring perfect hi-def picture and hi-def sound.

Tour of the dead June 2013 - With The Jennings Family!

Tour of the dead June 2013 – The Jennings family visit key filming locations from Shaun of the dead!

Hey guys, welcome back to Jonny’s cult films! Back in June my wife Gaynor & I came up with the idea of taking our Shaun of the dead fanatic daughter on a tour of as many filming locations from the film as we could possibly manage in one day. Thanks to the wonders of the ‘tinternet all we needed was a simple Google search, a sat-nav (essential for this kind of endeavour!) and a full tank of petrol. With post codes in hand and excitement in our hearts we hit the open road. Here is Molly’s account of her special day...

Location 1: Liz’s flat - ‘Cunningham House’ Hill Crest, High Gate.

"Don't worry folks, Fred and Molly have our back covered!"

‘’Upon arriving I could tell straight away which flat was in the film as it hasn’t changed much at all in the ten years since filming began. It is a beautiful, quiet location hidden away on a private road. The complex isn’t supposed to be accessed by the general public and it felt like we had attracted the suspicions of an elderly man watering his plants. Mum decided to wait with the car whilst dad took some pictures of me and my brother Fred. He took a snap of us by the main entrance to the building where Shaun and the others run out and attack zombies before escaping in Phillip’s Jag. It occurred to me that all of the cast would have been in the same exact that I was now stood, including my favourite character Dianne! It was weird seeing the same
place that I have as a screen saver on my lap top. All in all it was a great location!’’ ****
Location 2: Shaun’s house – 83 Weston Park.

"Hello Molly, Fancy Nipping to Nelson's to get us some Cornetto's?"

‘’Next up on the tour was the house where Shaun lives with his flat mates Ed & Pete. In the film the house looked a bit run down and we were led to believe that the area was a little shabby. I was surprised at how nice the suburb actually was. In fact I hardly recognised the house and I was convinced that it was next door at first. Since filming the front garden had been cleared and shrubbery was now growing up the front of the building. Dad explained that the house was owned by a family so we probably shouldn’t bother them by going onto the property. He also pointed out that the interior of the house was filmed entirely on a sound stage in a studio so the inside of the actual house would be very different in real life. I did wonder if the back garden was used in the film. It would have been very cool if Shaun’s shed was still in place! We couldn’t tell as the garden is walled and inaccessible from the street. Dad took some pictures of the house and the road before heading over the road to Nelson’s newspaper shop just over the road. This location was absolutely brilliant! It would have got five stars if the house looked more like it did in the film. I’m glad the owners were out as we were there for ages!’’ ****

Location 3: Nelson’s Newspaper shop - Weston Park grocery store.

"I Can't believe you sent Molly to Nelson's shop for Cornetto's at a time like this!"

‘’One of the coolest things about this location is that it is just across the road from Shaun’s house, just like it is in the film! I thought the shop was fantastic as nothing has changed; even the floor tiles and fridges looked the same. We took some photos and we even got Cornetto’s just like Shaun does!! The Asian shopkeeper seemed oblivious to our unusual behaviour, perhaps we aren’t the first people to take pictures of his shop? We took some more photos of the shop exterior and dad even filmed the journey Shaun makes from his front gate to the shop entrance on mum’s phone. I thought this was one of the best locations of the day. It was certainly recognisable and fun to visit!’’ *****

Location 4: Shaun’s work place – Foree Electric aka Garland Electric.

"I cant belive that Fred has forgot to turn up for his work experience!"

‘’The journey from Weston Park to ‘Foree Electric’ was quite long and definitely not a journey I think Shaun would have been doing regularly if it was real life! The shop is located on a busy high street and we had to park in a car park about five minutes away. The store is still a fully functioning electronics store with the name ‘Garland Electronics’ and from the inside looked somewhat like it did in the movie. It was a bit run down and the carpets were damaged but it was very cool being in Shaun’s work place. Dad really wanted to buy a new 3D Blu ray player and really wanted the accolade of buying one from here. Unfortunately the model he wanted was priced up wrong and ended up being more expensive than he wanted to pay. He mentioned Shaun of the dead to the owner but the man didn’t work here at that time but he did mention ‘Little Britain’ being filmed in a jewellers up the road. Dad declined the Blu ray player, which he was a bit disappointed about but managed to take some pictures of the interior of the shop. By this time we were absolutely starving so we headed back to the car and ate our sarnies in a B&Q (Home Depot) car park! Overall this location was okay; it was recognisable from the film and was nice to see. ***

Location 5: Barbara & Phillip’s house – 37 Abbotts Gardens.

"I Think i spotted Fred at Barbara's house, lets knock and see if he is there"

‘’Whilst eating dinner I suggested visting the house where Shaun’s parents live. Dad didn’t have the address on his list so we used mum’s phone to Google the post code. Luckily it was only a short drive from our current location so we decided to go. Although the area hasn’t changed at all the house looked very different due to the camera angles in the film. We even drove right past it at first! The house owners were in when we pulled up so we decided to take pictures from the car and not look like complete mentals! We noticed the small area of grass where Ed drives Pete’s car into a road sign and made our way over to the final stop of the tour... The Winchester!! I’m glad we saw Barbara’s house. I would have liked a better opportunity to see the house properly but it was cool seeing just how different camera’s can make a location look.’’ ***

Location 6: The Winchester public house – New Cross.

"Tell Fred to forget about work experience, this "W"is for Winchester, we'll see him there!"

The Winchester pub is supposed to be Shaun and Ed’s local watering hole however in actual fact we are at least an hour away from the pub! It is located in New Cross which means driving through the docklands and past the Olympic stadium. Rush hour traffic on a Friday afternoon is never fun but considering where we are headed I don’t mind one bit! After a wrong turn down a rather dodgy looking estate we finally find the Holy Grail on our little tour. I had read up about the pub before we went on this tour so I already knew that the pub had been turned into apartments but I was still surprised by what we saw. The side entrance and phone box was completely removed and the angled front had been taken out altogether and re-painted. It was cool that they had left the old pub sign in place. What alarmed us most was how different things looked geographically. The angle of the park entrance where the gang pretend to be zombies looked very different and was a lot closer to the pub than it looked in the movie. That being said it was totally awesome seeing the Winchester in real life! I took loads of snaps from just about every angle possible before returning to the car. This was by far the best location of the day!’’ *****

‘’To be honest this has to be the best day ever! I really enjoyed seeing all the locations for Shaun of the dead. It was an experience I will never forget. It was absolutely brilliant and the Winchester was definitely my favourite setting. Now I would love to meet the cast in person!!!’’

So there you have it folks. I think it’s safe to say we gave Molly a very memorable and unique Birthday experience. I am very pleased she enjoyed the location tour as much as we hoped she would. Thanks to imdb.com and British-movie-locations.com for their invaluable information on the filming addresses!

The Car - Blu-Ray Reviewed.

The Car (1977)

“A sleek, possessed black car terrorizes everyone it comes in contact with in a small town in Utah.”

Director:Elliot Silverstein

Writers:Michael Butler, Dennis Shryack

Starring : James Brolin, Kathleen Lloyd, John Marley.

Hello Folks,

Jonny T here with my review of the newly released The Car, A latest release from Arrow Video for the 1st time on Blu-Ray.
The film opens up with a teenage boy and girl out on a sunny days bicycle ride around the mountains who then challenge each other to a race through the tunnels, the scene then switches to a sepia toned POV from inside The Car, Switch back to happy teenagers racing along oblivious to their impending doom! Then comes the music a blatant rip off of Jaws but it’s great and builds up the scene very nicely, So the car catches up with the two teenagers and the 1st one to be taken out is the young lady who is duly scraped along a wall then ousted over the edge, the car then turns it attention to the young man who is literally pedalling for his life but to no avail and is shunted over a super high bridge which is a great scene and a very impressive stunt, so, The Car is on the lose!
We then see James Brolin being playfully awoken in bed by his new girlfriend whilst his 2 daughters listen in threw the door, it turns out that he is a single parent who takes care of his two daughters whilst holding his job as a police officer and has plans to tell the girls that he wants to not get back with his ex-wife but marry his new flame. The next scene we see is bizarre to say the least, there is an apparent young hitchhiker who is sat by a sign in the road that says “Welcome to Santa Ynez” whilst playing a trombone and in the background is a van that says “Danger Explosives “then a man and lady emerges from the house and the man is beating his wife, Then man then notices the guy playing trombone and tells him to stop playing it and then says “I’ll shove that so far up your ass you will be farting music for a year!” to which the guy mocks him back with farting music noises from his mouth, very odd scene indeed!
So the guy is obviously awaiting a passing vehicle to hitch a lift when he sees dust in the distance of an approaching Car, I wonder what it could be?? And yes you’ve guessed it, it’s THE CAR! It drives straight at him full speed but he manages to jump out of the way in the nick of time and gives the car the finger, The Car grinds to a halt and does no less that reverse at high speed and runs over him, not once, not twice but 4 times!
Now James Brolin and his team go to the scene and question the wife beater to what he has seen and gives them a report that conflicts itself, so they know that a guy has been killed by a mysterious car but that’s about all, they then discover later on the bodies of the 2 teens killed earlier, there is a serial killer on the lose but in the form of a car, so is there actually anybody driving the car and where does it come from? There is a possibility that something sinister and supernatural may well be involved when after one of the officers is killed James Brolin interviews an old native Indian lady who basically says “Bad things are coming with the wind” these is apparent when in a great scene there appears to be a sand storm brewing whilst the locals including a brass band and horse parade are practising out on a track for an upcoming festival and in the distance we see the car approaching at high speed ready to slam into all of them, very similar again to Jaws in a see full of people, so do we find out the mysterious origins of the car? You shall just have to view it and find out folks, this is a superb restoration of the print and I remember seeing it back in the day and it was a great watch once again, obvious influences are drawn from the time as in the Jaws and Dual references, also as with the Arrow Video release it has some great extra’s, so if you remember this in a nostalgic way or have yet to see it I would recommend you pick this up,The Car is available now on Blu-Ray from Arrow Video

8/10

Great stuff!

The director and star of the critically acclaimed Cold Prey team up once again for a thrilling, action-packed adventure that marries the best of The Hunger Games and Mad Max as a young girl fights for survival against brutal warriors in a disease-ridden medieval world.

Director Roar Uthaug (Cold Prey); writer Thomas Moldestad (Cold Prey, Cold Prey 2); stars Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Cold Prey, Cold Prey 2, Chernobyl Diaries), Kristian Espedel aka Gaahl (frontman of Gorgoroth, Trelldom and Gaahlskagg).

Ten years after the Black Plague ravaged their country, a poor family sets out on a journey for a new home. Jean Reno & Orla Brady star in Parisian cop drama "JO"

UK DVD RELEASE: MONDAY 5th AUGUST 2013

Arrow Films are pleased to announce the DVD Box Set release of Jean Reno’s hit Parisian Cop drama "JO" on Monday 5th August 2013.

In his first TV series role since the 1980s, Reno plays Jo St-Clair, a veteran detective in Paris’s elite Criminal Brigade, tackling the city’s most challenging murder cases.

"French Confection" – Sunday Times Culture

From René Balcer, the Emmy® winning producer of Law & Order, and an all-star line-up of directors, including Charlotte Sieling (The Killing, The Bridge), JO’s unique storylines take its audience behind-the-scenes at some of Paris' most iconic locations. Heinous crimes are committed in the picturesque settings of the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Catacombs and Place Vendome.
As we follow St-Clair on his pursuit of justice, the extent of the turmoil in his personal life becomes apparent – a recently deceased wife and long estrangement from his damaged daughter combine with a fight against drink and drug addiction, creating the perfect storm of loneliness.

"An Action Packed New Series" – The Observer Review

Finding solace in his brilliant but brutal police work, St-Clair locks horns with pathological killers to solve a series of shocking murders.
Alongside Jean Reno are Tom Austen (The Borgias), who plays Boyard, Jo's college-educated rookie partner, and Jill Hennessy (Crossing Jordan) as Karyn, Jo’s adviser and friend. Boyard’s by-the-book approach is an entertaining contrast to Jo’s no holds barred methods.

"Oooh La La!" – Closer Magazine

Supervising the Criminal Brigade is tough-minded police chief Commisaire Dormont, wonderfully portrayed by Irish-born actress Orla Brady, who has suffered a long and turbulent history with Saint-Clair.
Following the success of their French cop-thriller Braquo and the sultry and sensual Maison Close, Arrow Films are proud to be bringing yet another top-quality Gallic drama to the UK.

Episode Synopsis

Episode 1 - "Notre Dame"
A body is found beaten and strangled under the"Last Judgment" portal of Notre Dame. The victim’s ears symbolically pierced, Jo concludes that this was the killer’s way of saying that this victim wasn’t worth God’s mercy.

Episode 2 - "Pigalle"
During fashion week, the barely-alive body of a glamorous former model is found hanging in the upper levels of the Eiffel tower’s iron structure. Her lover’s estranged wife is Jo’s first suspect.

Episode 3 - "Place De La Concorde"
Notorious young stunt man Alain"Spiderman" Robert is found with his neck broken dressed in climbing gear at the base of the Obelisk. Jo discovers Alain was hired by a rich industrialist to spy on a kinky sex play involving one of France’s most prestigious families.

Episode 4 - "The Invalides"
35-year-old Mirage fighter pilot Charlotte Dumas is found dead inside Les Invalides wearing a ring stolen in a notorious unsolved murder. The main suspect is a mechanic in Charlotte’s crew who had a controversial relationship.

Episode 5 - "Place Vendome"
In a garage under Place Vendome, firemen find a burnt corpse behind the wheel of a car. The cops identify Philip Roquin, an accountant at a jewellery store. His family and employer’s testimonies differ but who is lying?

Episode 6 - "Le Marais"
Place Des Vosges, a stone’s throw from Victor Hugo’s apartment. A young woman is found dead from a blunt-force head wound. Jo deducts the murder was not premeditated but more likely a crime of passion.

Episode 7 - "Opera"
On a sunny afternoon after taking his daughter to her ballet lesson, a middle-aged man gets stabbed on the steps of the Palais Garnier. The victim being an economist and a family man, everything suggests the murder was random.

Episode 8 - "The Catacombs"
A young woman is found stabbed to death in the Catacombs, an area known popular with Goth teenagers and would-be Satanists. Suspicion at first falls on those two groups but the style of the killing suggests a sexual motive.

Classic Sc-Fi Series The Invisible Man Out on DVD 8 July 2013 - Reviewed

Hello Folks,

Jonny T here with my review of The Invisible Man TV show.

Out for the 1st time on DVD and featuring the Man from U.NC.L.E Legend David McCallum this rarely seen gem for me definitely delivers!

The Pilot show opens up with a 1st person perspective of someone who appears to be injured making their way to a hospital, Upon entering the main reception whoever it is appears to be seemingly ignored by all around, we then see a hospital log with a name and next to it says simply “Skin Graft” We then see a sign saying Surgery where we get taken up the stairs and look over into an operating theatre, A chair seems to move by itself and then you realise this is the 1st glimpse (or not actually!) of The Invisible Man Daniel Western (McCallum). A Voice over starts and we are transported back to the very beginning of the story.

We see a very happy Daniel do his daily jogging then home to his wife excited about his new project, He returns to work and meets up with his boss, not a very nice chap, So when Daniel asks him for further funding he basically hits the roof and says that he has been working for 8 months and already spent $1.5million and he has yet to see any results! So Daniel takes him to the lab and produces a pen which he puts on a table and shines what seems to be a red laser at it, the pen duly disappears, Still not impressed and under the impression that all he has created has been a laser that disintegrates things he once more has a go at Daniel, its only when Daniel appears to pick up something that was where the pen was and starts writing with it that his jaw drops! Daniel then explains that it has also been tested on rabbits and that after a few hours they become visible again, also that he has developed a serum that when injected will make living things visible quicker, excitedly the boss then asks if it could work on humans and that the endless possibilities as in nations creating invisible armies and spies is endless, This makes Daniel not a happy man who then goes on to explain that that was never his intention to create something that could be used as a military tool and if that’s the case he shall quit, the boss sees the potential in his creation and backs down from the military aspect and agrees to provide more funding which he duly signs with the invisible pen!

Unbeknownst to the boss and his wife he has had the idea of testing it on humans starting with himself. So he sneaks into the lab at night and hey presto it works! So he goes home in the morning now invisible and basically scares the shit out of his very angry wife, So he calms her down and she agrees to take him back to the lab to reveal his achievement to his boss, when they arrive the all go into the lab and he sticks on a gown to hide his man bits and injects the serum, Daniel then reappears to the amazement of his boss who later calls Daniel into his office to meet some “Men” These “Men” turn out to be Military Men, Daniel is fuming and duly leaves only to return later that night turns invisible again and sets to destroy the whole lab, Security comes in and tries to stop him but to no avail, he escapes, now on the run.

He is now on the run, a wanted Invisible Man! He meets up with a blind man who gives him refuge but the blind man things he is up to no good and decides to shoot him, Not a good day for Daniel to say the very least, This is where it flips back to the opening scene of the 1st person perspective and we now realise that the 1st person is Daniel, Struggling his way back to the hospital and hooking up and explaining to his surgeon friend who is a skin graft expert what has happened, unable to get the serum he crafts him a latex suit and for now he is Daniel again but still on the run……….

So what we get here basically is a show that for some reason slipped under the “Classic” TV show radar and it may not be up there with the likes of The Six Million Dollar man but I for one thoroughly enjoyed it, Plenty of action, plot twists and of course the great McCallum, Set out over 4 discs and a running time of a whopping 631 minutes you will certainly get some great rare TV for your money,

Jonny T.

PARANORMAL TV AND ME.

Hello Folks,
Jonny T here with “Paranormal TV and Me”, Now, over the last 2 years I have really gotten into Paranormal TV shoes, It seems that in the USA they cannot get enough of them and I have to say some are good, some are bad and some are downright ugly! I got into them after getting pissed off with UK show Most Haunted, when that first started it was great "Turn your brain off" TV but as it went on it for me became a bad parody of itself, with the ladies involved just constantly screaming then asking “Did you hear that noise” how could we when you’re screaming??? And as for the golden haired scouser that is Derek Akorah channelling to the other side with his Ethiopian ghost friend, the less said about that the better! So I thought one day let’s have a look at see what out there, The first show I came across was Ghost Hunters with Jason and Grant and they went to The Shining hotel and it was great, so I watched all 8 series then looked again and found Ghost Adventures which is pure entertainment gold, I have since found a few more good ones so I have stuck my top ones below so seek them out if you can for those nights of just turn your brain off and enjoy dossy TV, Not sure myself if The Paranormal/Afterlife exsists but it certainly makes for some great TV,
Enjoy,
Jonny T.

So here is the programme that first got me hooked into the whole Paranormal TV genre, Ghost Hunters, From the 1st series we see Jason And Grant working there daily plumping jobs and recieving calls of people need help investigating ghost in their properties, Now the good thing about Ghost Hunters is that they go with total open minds and to disprove what is happening but with some things in the show that even they cannot explain, The early shows see's them with some very basic equipment and slowly builds throughout the seasons with them getting hi-tech equipment to track down those elusive spirits, Over the many series to date we get various members coming and going, some great and not so great, Brian was one of my particular favourites, Scatty to say the least but his passion and humour was great, One episode in particular to look out for is where they visit The Shining Hotel, Great stuff.

GHOST HUNTERS-FULL EPISODE-HOLLYWOOD HORRORS.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next up is Ghost Adventures, Currently and possibly my personal favourite out of all the shows,Following the ghost hunting adventures of Zak,Aaron and Nick they get some great footage, The great thing about Ghost Adventures in my opinion is the fact that they know how to have a good time whilst doing it especially poor old Aaron the always seems to get the job of spending nights in haunted attics and demon filled cellars often resulting in what now is becoming his catchphrase "NO WAY DUDE!" Great stuff!!I have put below season 1 episode 1, one of the creepiest ones they have ever done, The Super haunted Bobby Mackeys.

Deep South Paranormal, What can you say, IT’S BRILLIANT! Very similar in tone to if you have seen it the awesome Duck Dynasty, Deep South accents, Frogs breath spells, Singing acoustic songs to entice the spirits, basically all round insanity, Just started in 2013 and currently on 6 episodes let’s hope it may long continue, yeeeeeee haaaaaaaa!!

Now on to the “Based upon True events” style shows………..
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paranormal Witness tells the stories and re-enactments of various folks with all manner of not just Paranormal experiences relating to ghosts/demons etc. but also tells some great stories of stuff such as UFO abductions, werewolves and the like! Some truly great episodes some of which have made it onto the big screen, Stories such as A Haunting in Connecticut and The Dibbuck Box recently made into the move The Possession, Another great episode to look out for is The Haunted Hollywood sign where 3 guys and a girl go to the sign, see a ghost, The 3 guys run away super quick and leave the girl to it! Well worth a watch indeed.

Another great “Based On True Events” Style show this time comprising of 2 or 3 different people telling you there ghost stories in the space of 45 minutes, a mix of actual footage and re-enactment’s this has some genuinely creepy moments, although it does have to be said that a lot of the time a lot of people in the re-enactments are skinny and good looking but when you see the actual people non over them usually are below the weight of 20 stone! Still a great show though, if a little too over obsessed with the “ORB” phenomenon.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Haunted Collector consists of Family members John, Aimee and Chris Zaffis, Bit of an odd show this one, Takes the format of the likes of Ghost Hunters but the main job of this ghost hunting team is to find what they class as a “Trigger” object at the place where the hauntings are occurring and remove it, Sometimes a little far-fetched and miraculous how they manage to find the things that are apparently causing the hauntings and remove them but none the less still a pretty decent show to add to the list!

So there you go folks, some (well I think) great escapism TV, There are tons more of these type of shows out there and if I find anymore great ones I shall let you know, Don’t have nightmares!
