Hello Folks,
Jonny T here with my review of Nordic Horror "THALE".
The Story starts out with our 2 main characters Elvis and Leo who work for a cleaning company but it's not your normal cleaning company it's one that cleans up the dead! The main guy Leo enlists the help of his good friend Elvis but it's clear from the outset that it's not his favourite choice of job as the first 5 minutes and throughout the film all he does is puke and with Leo describing how the current job they are working on involves scraping an old lady off the floor i can't say i blame him!
With that job finished they move on to the next,This is where we stay with things throughout the remainder of the movie, Upon arrival it seem like just a normal run of the mill clean up the dead type of job but when Elvis discovers a door in the basement that leads into what seems like some kind of lab things take a very different twist,The room contains such things as a fridge, a tape recorder, various medical implements and a bath with pipes going into it and it is filled with a milky like substance, Leo goes to get dinner from the van and tells Elvis not to touch anything but Elvis being Mr Curious decides to start playing the tape, we hear various things said that seem to be from the deceased old man then the noise of what sound like an animal screeching when all of a sudden a naked girls leaps up from the bath with a pipe attached to her mouth, to say Elvis is shocked is an understatement!

So Leo arrives back to see Elvis and the naked girl, now it has to be said that Leo is a great character in the respect that he shows no emotion whatsoever in any situation, so by the time the girl is on her countless out of date tin of food and about 18th cob Leo says he has rung the authorities and they are on the way, Elvis then wanders off as the girl seems to have disappeared only to find a small makeshift bedroom with the girl hiding under the bed, she reaches out and touches him resulting in visions in his mind of her upbringing and even more intriguing her discovery. She is found in a small cave as a baby by the mysterious old man and taken back to his home, where in it transpires that as she is being brought up by a Human she manages to take on a human form and not one of her own, the film then goes on to show the true creatures in brief glimpses that run here and there throughout the forest and they look great!Apparently the story is loosely based on true Nordic folklore which i for one after seeing this i Wonder if there are many more because the subject matter makes this a great film and it would be great to see some more of the tales brought to the screen.
So, in summing up Thale in my opinion is a great movie, the performances and atmosphere is superb,It looks great, the setting of the remote cabin in the extremely picturesque setting adds a ton of great scenes, done on a low budget but as i said the settings add a true feel of grandeur, all in all a great addition to the every growing great catalogue of Nordic Cinema.
8/10
